The Professional Forum on Energy Storage Industry Development of the 15th China New Energy International Exhibition and Forum took place in Juning, Jiangsu Province on January 17. Li Zhen, Chairman of Gotion High-Tech Co., Ltd., director of the Energy Storage Committee under the New Energy Chamber of Commerce of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, was invited to attend. He spoke online via video on the topic of "Developing Energy Storage and Contributing to the Strategy of Peak Carbon Dioxide Emissions and Carbon Neutrality".

Li Zhen stated that first of all, the growth of energy storage is the basis of industrial development. In this regard, he cited General Secretary Xi's statement from the Leaders' Summit on Climate to the effect that China's share of non-fossil fuels in primary energy consumption would exceed 25% by 2030, with total wind and solar power generation capacity poised to exceed 1.6 billion kilowatts. The energy storage market, for its part, has been spurred on by the growing demand for renewable energy. The result has been a need for electrochemical energy storage companies to focus on scaling up and keeping apace with the needs of the times.

Next, he spoke of the vital role played by advanced technology in industrial growth. Specifically, Gotion High-Tech’s continuous investment in R&D over the years has resulted in a place at the forefront of the industrialization of high-performance lithium batteries with 10,000 cycle life. This year, the company is organizing research on 15,000 cycle technology, which will reduce the cost of battery storage from RMB 0.1 to RMB 0.075 per kilowatt-hour. He called on energy storage industry stakeholders to work together to advance industry technologies.

The third point of focus was on the path to industrial progress through development. The policies, technologies, and market demand of the energy storage industry have matured. Li predicts that experts from all walks of life will provide insights and push the industry to find business models that balance the interests of all parties as the industry experiences a boom.

The fourth point looked to the cooperation driving industrial progress. To achieve the ambitious carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals set forth, efforts will have to be made to harness national policies, power grids, all levels of government, the energy storage industry, and a variety of enterprises within the power generation industry behind a single goal. Li said that Gotion High-Tech, for its part, was willing to engage in strategic cooperation with new energy companies to jointly facilitate the development of the cause.

This year’s forum, themed "Decoding Carbon Neutrality and Discussing New Scenarios", was directed by the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and hosted by the New Energy Chamber of Commerce of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce. With both online and offline sessions, it attracted the participation of high-profile guests from the government, private enterprise, and research institutes.
